A: All three OPPO players are excellent DVD players with high definition up-conversion. The DV-981HD emphasizes more on the video performance while the DV-980H and DV-970HD emphasizes more on overall performance and value. The main differences are:

Video Processing Technology:

• The DV-981HD features video processing with "DCDi by Faroudja" technology and video chipset by Genesis/Faroudja; the DV-970HD and DV-980H use a different chipset technology for video de-interlacing and up-conversion. While all three players produce excellent picture quality and the difference is subtle, the "DCDi by Faroudja" technology is able to handle some tricky video contents. On very large TV or projector screens, the difference could be noticed by experts or videophiles. When benchmarked with contents designed to test video performance, the DV-981HD will score higher than the DV-970HD and DV-980H.

Output Resolution:

• The DV-981HD supports output resolution up to 1080p. If your projector or flat panel TV has a native resolution of 1920x1080 and can accept the 1080p/60 signal, and are looking for excellent PAL playback, the DV-981HD is highly recommended.
• The DV-980H supports output resolution up to 1080p. If your rear projection (DLP) TV, projector, or flat panel TV has a native resolution of 1920x1080 and can accept the 1080p/60 signal, the DV-980H is highly recommended.
• The DV-970HD supports 480i/576i native SD resolution over HDMI. If you use an external video signal processor with HDMI input the DV-970HD is highly recommended. SACD Playback:

• Sporting a HDMI 1.2a output, the DV-980H is capable of DSD output over HDMI to an audio/video receiver with DSD decoding.

Convenience Features:

**The DV-980H is a universal player that supports DVD-Audio and SACD. Due to license and copyright restrictions, the only way to connect DVD-Audio and SACD multi-channel output to receivers is via 5.1ch/7.1ch analog or HDMI. Many receivers cannot apply 7.1ch surround processing to 5.1ch analog input or HDMI input. Those receivers can only apply surround processing to signal coming in through optical or coaxial digital connections. By having the 7.1ch audio feature in the player, the problem was solved

Having 7.1ch audio output has nothing to do with amplification or driving speakers directly. The player is a source device and an A/V receiver is always needed to drive the speakers.

The DV-980H features a black metal chassis and a black front panel with brushed aluminum appearance (made with plastic and composite materials). On the back panel there are HDMI output, individual 7.1-channel analog audio connectors, composite video, S-Video, coaxial and optical digital audio outputs. All connectors are gold-plated. A detachable power cord is provided for convenient connection to AC power. A USB 2.0 port is located at the right edge of the front panel.
